The Aerospace Corporation Announces Election
of Robert Walker to Board of Trustees

 

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (March 12, 2007) — Former Congressman Robert S. Walker has been reelected to the The Aerospace Corporation’s board of trustees. Walker was elected March 9 to a three-year term during the board’s quarterly meeting held in McLean, Va. He previously served on the board from1997 to 2005.


Walker is chairman of Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates, a government-relations firm based in Washington, D.C. He represented Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District for 20 years before retiring in 1996 from the House of Representatives. Positions he held included Chairman of the Science Committee, Chief Deputy Republican Whip, Chairman of the Republican leadership, and Speaker Pro Tempore. In 1996, Walker became the first sitting member of the House to be awarded NASA’s highest honor—the Distinguished Service Medal. In 2004 he received NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal.


In addition to leadership positions in Congress, Walker has served as Chairman of the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry, as a member of the President’s Commission on the United States Postal Service, and as a member of the Presidential Commission on the Implementation of the United States Space Exploration Policy. He also served on the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board of the National Research Council.


Besides his wide experience in public policy and governmental affairs, Walker is considered an expert in science, space, technology, and energy issues. He appears regularly as a commentator on major network news and cable broadcast programs and is a contributor to several national newspapers. He lectures at the Brookings Institution, the Georgetown University Government Affairs Institute, and the Kennedy School at Harvard University.


Walker serves on the boards of the Zero G Corporation and SpaceDev, Inc., as well as The Aerospace Corporation’s board, and is Chair of The Space Foundation.


Prior to his election to Congress in 1976, Walker was a high school teacher and a congressional aide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Millersville University in Pennsylvania, a master’s in political science from the University of Delaware, and an honorary doctor of laws degree from Franklin and Marshall College.
