Volunteers With a Heart Repair, Transfer Computers
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (5/1/00) -- Employees of The Aerospace Corporation who worked as volunteers for the Computer Learning with Aerospace Surplus Systems (CLASS) program were recognized by Dr. Michael Daugherty, executive vice president, at a luncheon held March 16 at the company's headquarters in El Segundo, Calif.
The event spotlighted an intensive effort by the volunteers to repair and transfer more than 100 computers in working condition to the Have a Heart Foundation last December.
The foundation, with headquarters in Marina del Rey, helps abused women and children, disadvantaged students of all ages, the unemployed, the homeless, the disabled, the elderly, and those unable to leave their homes.
CLASS was established in 1997 as a volunteer activity to enhance the computer redistribution program at The Aerospace Corporation by providing for the reassembly, checkout and minor repair of machines before their transfer to educational and nonprofit organizations.
