Aerospace Lauded as Member of Titan Launch Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (4/3/06) -- Members of The Aerospace Corporation, as part of the U.S. Titan Launch Vehicle Team, received the Space Achievement Award from the Space Foundation at an awards ceremony last month during the 22nd National Space Symposium, which took place Apr. 3-6, 2006, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Titan launch vehicle team, which consists of Lockheed Martin, NASA, Aerospace, and the U.S. Air Force, was recognized for “50 years of lifting our nation with the strength of the mighty Titan family of launch vehicles. Through the course of some 368 launches, the U.S. Titan Launch Vehicle Team has provided the vital space transportation for strategic deterrence, early space exploration, and the key national-security space capabilities that are the backbone of the defense of the United States.” The first Titan launch took place Feb. 6, 1959 and the final Titan launch was Oct. 19, 2005.

Dr. Bill Ballhaus, president and chief executive officer, accepted the award on behalf of the corporation. “I am proud to be part of a team whose commitment to mission success is the driving force in all aspects of their work,” Ballhaus said following the awards ceremony.

The Space Foundation annually recognizes individuals or organizations that have demonstrated space achievement, breakthrough space technology, or program or product success deemed to represent a critical milestone in the evolution of space exploration and development.

In 2005, Aerospace was recognized with a Space Achievement Award as part of the Inertial Upper Stage Team.
