Aerospace Microengineering Text Available
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (7/28/99) -- "Microengineering Aerospace Systems," a one-of-a-kind text and reference on the application of microengineering principles for miniature space systems, has just been published by The Aerospace Press, a division of The Aerospace Corporation, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
The book's editor, Dr. Henry Helvajian of The Aerospace Corporation's Center for Microtechnology, said the book provides "a snapshot view" of the state of the art in this fast-moving technology. The Aerospace Corporation has been at the forefront of microengineering for space systems for nearly a decade.
"The book assembles many of the ideas, fundamental principles and technology rudiments that can profoundly change the manner by which aerospace systems are designed, engineered and assembled," Helvajian said.
"By design, the book is written in a tutorial style. It is the first of its kind, and its contributors include noted pioneers in the microelectromechanical (MEMS) and aerospace communities," he said.
The 44 authors represent universities, industry, and government laboratories in the United States and Europe. Authors from The Aerospace Corporation include Drs. Siegfried Janson, Bruce Weiller, Sherwin Amimoto, Richard Chang and Helvajian.
Because of the strong interest in this subject, AIAA is distributing two earlier monographs: "Micro and Nanotechnology for Space Systems," edited by Helvajian and Ernie Robinson, also of The Aerospace Corporation, and "Microengineering Technology for Space Systems," edited by Helvajian.
"Microengineering Aerospace Systems" can be purchased online from the AIAA at http://www.aiaa.org/publications/index.html or by calling 1-800-682-2422.
