Dr. Eberhardt Rechtin
Recognized for
Contributions to Systems Engineering
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (7/28/99) -- Dr. Eberhardt Rechtin, formerly president of The Aerospace Corporation, received the Pioneer Award from the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) in June at the organization's annual symposium in Brighton, England.
The award, only the third such award granted by the organization in its nine-year history, was presented in recognition of Rechtin's pioneering work in systems engineering.
He was instrumental in defining and developing the discipline of systems engineering and architecting, and practicing and promulgating its principles at The Aerospace Corporation and in the academic community.
Rechtin was president of The Aerospace Corporation from 1977 to 1987. After leaving the company he joined the University of Southern California as a professor of engineering.
He is the author of "Systems Architecting" and co-author of "The Art of Systems Architecting," written in collaboration with co-author Dr. Mark Maier, a senior engineering specialist in The Aerospace Corporation's Chantilly office and a student of Rechtin's at USC.
