Two New Books Available From The Aerospace Press, AIAA
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (7/24/00) -- Two new books, Communication Satellites, Fourth Edition, by Donald Martin, Architectures and Spectrum Management Office, and Rocket Exhaust Plume Phenomenology, by Dr. Frederick Simmons, Sensor Systems Subdivision, have been published by The Aerospace Press, a division of The Aerospace Corporation.
Communication Satellites, Fourth Edition, describes communication satellites beginning with the Army's Project SCORE launched in 1958, through satellites now being manufactured. It focuses on the satellite and its communication subsystem, but also describes some broader aspects of the satellite's larger communication system. Since it was first published in 1986, the book has become a standard in the chronicles of communication satellites.
Rocket Exhaust Plume Phenomenology is an introductory treatment of the multidisciplinary subject of plume phenomenology relating to development of space-based defense systems. It covers elementary principles of rocketry, basics of rocket-propellant combustion, gas dynamics of supersonic exhaust plumes, infrared radiation processes, theoretical plume models, physical properties of exhaust constituents, diagnostic measurement techniques and related topics. It is written at a level intended to bridge the gap between space systems engineers and scientists involved in detailed studies of plume observables.
Both books are liberally illustrated, cite extensive references and include appendixes, glossaries and indexes.
The books, co-published with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), can be ordered from AIAA at http://www.aiaa.org/publications/ index.html or at 1-800-682-2422.
Both books are being featured online at the AIAA Store during the month of July. Another book, Microengineering Aerospace Systems, by Dr. Henry Helvajian of The Aerospace Corporation, is also featured in this month's spotlight. The AIAA Store is available on the Internet at www3.aiaa.org/store/.
