The Aerospace Corporation Receives Award For
Knowledge Retention, Sharing Program
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (5/9/07)—The Aerospace Corporation has been recognized by the American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) as one of five “best-practice” organizations for knowledge retention and transfer.
Aerospace, which represents to a large degree the institutional memory for the nation’s military space program, was honored at the APQC Knowledge Management Conference held May 8 through 11 in Houston, Texas.
The company’s achievements were showcased in a two-day “Knowledge Transfer Session” that was part of the conference.
Accepting a trophy on May 9 during the session was Stewart Sutton of the corporation's Knowledge Management Office, along with other members of the company’s knowledge management team.
“We are pleased to receive this very significant recognition of the success of knowledge management within The Aerospace Corporation,” Sutton said. “It shows that our strategies, processes, and techniques for knowledge retention and transfer are effective and that we are meeting goals we have set to advance our capabilities in these areas.”
Aerospace was among five organizations chosen from 49 candidate best-practice “partners” working to improve knowledge retention and sharing capabilities. Sutton said the selection of Aerospace as one of the best five organizations working to retain and transfer knowledge was based on data the company shared with a consortium of 30 organizations.
He said the consortium conducted a screening process of all the applicants, culminating in the selection of the five organizations recognized.
Honored in addition to The Aerospace Corporation were the Fluor Corporation, Michelin, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Jet Propulsion Laboratory team, and Rolls-Royce.
Members of the Aerospace knowledge management team who represented the company at the conference in Houston, besides Sutton, were Michelle Gregorio, Dr. Laurie Henrikson, Mary Hornickel, J.C. Kern, and Chris Lincoln.
The Aerospace Corporation, based in El Segundo, Calif., is an independent, nonprofit company that provides objective technical analyses and assessments for national-security space programs and selected civil and commercial space programs in the national interest.
