Summer Interns Gain Experience
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (7/28/99) -- Every summer The Aerospace Corporation offers students from high schools, colleges and universities the opportunity to enhance their professional skills and gain work experience in a variety of fields through paid internships.
The summer intern program has been in existence for about 37 years, almost since the company's inception. The 73 students who make up this year's group of interns hold technical and administrative support positions in many different departments throughout the corporation.
Many promising interns have discovered The Aerospace Corporation through corporate initiatives to provide educational programs to young adults.
An example is Aerospace's Commitment to Education (ACE) program, which was created in 1996 to provide local high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to gain experience by working on site with a mentor. Eleven ACE students from the 1998-1999 academic year are employed as interns this summer.
Interns are typically recruited from schools across the country and even from abroad. Some discover The Aerospace Corporation through individual research.
This summer is no exception, with students from UC Irvine, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Florida, Florida State, Arizona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Riverside, Illinois, Brigham Young, UCLA, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Syracuse, Columbia, Colorado and North Carolina State. The company also hosts one student from the University of Turabo in Puerto Rico.
