The Aerospace Corporation Announces
Organizational and Personnel Changes

 

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (12/15/03) -- Dr. William F. Ballhaus Jr., president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation, announced today that the company's board of trustees approved several organizational and personnel changes, effective January 1, 2004.

"These changes will streamline our operations overall, strengthen our ability to support our customers more efficiently and effectively, and continue our long-term succession-planning efforts," Ballhaus said. "We're doing this at a time when most of the mission areas in national security space are being upgraded and planning is underway for new transformational programs."

The changes include:

John R. Parsons has been named senior vice president of the Engineering and Technology Group (ETG), reporting to the Executive Office, which comprises the president and CEO and the executive vice president. ETG includes nearly half of the technical staff of the corporation and provides matrix-based technical support to other Aerospace organizations. Parsons will succeed Dr. Wanda M. Austin who is to become senior VP of the National Systems Group in Chantilly, Va., effective April 1, 2004, replacing Jon H. Bryson who is retiring. Parsons' current organization, Space Systems Group, is disbanded. Its major elements, Space Program Operations and Space Launch Operations, will report to the Executive Office as described below.

John R. Wormington has been named vice president, Program Assessment, and will report to the Executive Office. Wormington's responsibilities include working with senior customer leadership to establish independent review processes for national security space programs, conducting reviews of major acquisition programs, and making recommendations to improve the executability of programs. He had been executive director, Program Executability.

Stephen E. Burrin , vice president of Space Program Operations (SPO), will now report to the Executive Office. He is responsible for Aerospace support to all Air Force satellite programs, including Milstar, Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS), Wideband Gapfiller, Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF), Transformational Communications, Global Positioning System (GPS), Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP), National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS), Defense Support Program (DSP), Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), Space-Based Radar (SBR), Ultrahigh-Frequency Follow-On (UFO), Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), Space Test Program, and Space Superiority. SPO comprises five organizations: Space Based Surveillance Division, Military Satellite Communications Division (MILSATCOM), Navigation Division, Space Support Division, and Space-Based Radar Directorate.

Ray F. Johnson , vice president of Space Launch Operations (SLO), will now report to the Executive Office. He is responsible for Aerospace support to all Air Force launch and satellite control programs, including Titan IV, Delta II, Atlas II, Upper Stages, the Delta IV and Atlas V evolved expendable launch vehicles (EELV), and the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN). SLO has responsibility for the company's launch operations at Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. SLO also manages civil and commercial contracts through its Space Launch Projects office. SLO comprises four divisions: Space Launch Support Division, Launch Vehicle Engineering and Analysis Division, EELV Division, and Satellite and Launch Control Division.

Linda R. Drake has been named general manager of Satellite and Launch Control Division, reporting to Johnson, and will be responsible for Aerospace support to Spacelift Range and Air Force Satellite Control Network operations.

Dennis A. Plunkett , general manager of Space Support Division, will report to Burrin and will be responsible for Aerospace support to Meteorological Satellite Systems, Navy Space Systems, NPOESS, Space Test Program, and Space Superiority support activities within Space Program Operations.

Dr. Rami R. Razouk has been named associate general manager of Space Support Division reporting to Plunkett.
