The Aerospace Corporation Announces Election of

Nelson Gibbs and Jim Slattery to Board of Trustees

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (12/8/05) — Former Air Force official Nelson F. Gibbs and former Congressman Jim Slattery have been elected to The Aerospace Corporation’s board of trustees. They were elected to three-year terms Dec. 7 during the board’s quarterly meeting held at the company’s headquarters in El Segundo, Calif.

Gibbs retired this year as assistant secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Logistics, a post he had held since 2001. Before that, from 1999 to 2001, he was executive director of the Cost Accounting Standards Board of the Office of Management and Budget.

Prior to his service with the federal government, Gibbs, a certified public accountant, worked in private industry. He joined accounting, tax and consulting firm Deloitte & Touche in 1962 after serving for two years as an officer in the U.S. Army. With Deloitte & Touche he held a variety of positions, including director of audit operations in Los Angeles and senior partner in Tokyo, Japan. He joined Northrop Grumman Corp. in 1991, serving as corporate controller until he joined the Office of Management and Budget.

Slattery is a partner in the law firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding LLP, which is based in Washington, D.C. He served as a member of Congress from Kansas from 1983 to 1995. Throughout his 12-year term he was a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. He also served six years on the House Budget Committee, among other assignments. He was chairman of the federal Childhood Disability Commission in 1995.

Slattery was a member of the Kansas State House of Representatives from 1973 to 1979. Later, he was president of Brosius, Slattery & Meyer, Inc., Realtors in Topeka, Kan.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and vice president of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress. In addition to the Aerospace board of trustees, he serves on the board of directors of the Translational Genomics Consortium and the Washburn (University) Endowment Association.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Nelson and Jim to the board of trustees, said Dr. William F. Ballhaus Jr., president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation. “They bring valuable experience and expertise to the board, which will be strengthened by their participation.”

Meanwhile, Ballhaus announced that retired Lt. Gen. Donald L. Cromer (USAF) will replace Dr. Bradford W. Parkinson as chairman of the board. Parkinson is retiring after nine years of service. He was chairman from 2000 through 2005.

“Brad has done an exceptional job of providing leadership and direction and keeping the management team focused,” Ballhaus said. “We will miss Brad a great deal and we wish him all the best.”

Two other trustees, Jimmie D. Hill and Ruth L. Novak, are retiring from the board, and Jeffrey H. Smith, Esq., and Robert S. Walker, are leaving the board after serving three consecutive three-year terms.
“We thank them for their many years of dedicated service, which has been invaluable to the corporation, “ Ballhaus said.
