The Aerospace Corporation
Saves
Defense Department More Than $1 Billion in 1998
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (4/12/99) The Aerospace Corporation saved or avoided costs for the U.S Air Force and national security space program totaling more than $1 billion in fiscal year 1998 through its assessments and recommendations on a wide range of space-related programs.
Much of the analytical work done on behalf of the Aerospace FFRDC requires independent laboratory evaluation or objective engineering tradeoffs of key data and engineering development processes. These independent analyses led to value added cost-reductions by identifying and providing solutions to design problems and operational inefficiencies of both hardware and software, identifying more effective and less costly program structures or processes, and by identifying and providing possible solutions to failures that could degrade future space programs.
Aerospace provides launch certification, system of systems engineering, process implementation, technology application, along with system development and application expertise for all Defense Department and national security space missions. This support is provided under contract with U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles Air Force Base.
