Aerospace Selected One of Five
“Best Practice” Organizations

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (1/31/07) — The Aerospace Corporation has been selected one of five “Best Practice” organizations for knowledge retention and transfer by the American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) and will host an APQC benchmarking study Wednesday, Jan. 31, in El Segundo. The corporation was chosen from 49 potential “Best Practice” partners.

Success

“This is a major recognition of the success of knowledge management within Aerospace,” Stewart Sutton of the corporation's Knowledge Management Office, said. “This selection was based on our strategies, processes, and techniques for knowledge retention and transfer, and was derived from data Aerospace shared with the consortium of 30 organizations.”

A subsequent screening process of all the applicants was then conducted by the consortium, culminating in the selection of the five “Best Practice” partners:  Aerospace, NASA/JPL, Michelin, Rolls-Royce, and the Fluor Corporation.

Benchmarking

For the benchmarking study, Aerospace will host the 30 sponsor companies for a half-day series of presentations that reflect the corporation’s approach to knowledge retention and transfer.

Presentation topics will include the corporation's knowledge management vision and governance; process improvement, governance, and change management; the company's corporate strategy; and information about the company's knowledge management program, and knowledge retention and transfer.

As a “Best-Practice”-partner organization, the corporation’s achievements in knowledge retention and transfer will be showcased in a two-day “Knowledge Transfer Session” at the APQC Knowledge Management Conference May 8 through 11 in Houston, Texas.

Founded in 1977, APQC is a member-based nonprofit organization that provides benchmarking and best-practice research for approximately 500 organizations worldwide in all industries.

The Aerospace Corporation, based in El Segundo, Calif., is an independent, nonprofit company that provides objective technical analyses and assessments for national-security space programs and selected civil and commercial space programs in the national interest.
