Dr. Kirstie Bellman Elected AAAS Fellow

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (6/19/00) -- The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has elected Dr. Kirstie Bellman, of The Aerospace Corporation's National Systems Group, a Fellow.

Noted Harvard biologist Dr. Stephen Jay Gould made the presentation to Bellman and more than 200 other newly elected Fellows Feb. 19 during the organization's annual meeting in Washington, D.C. She received an official certificate and the gold and blue rosette pin of the AAAS.

Bellman, principal director of the Aerospace Integration Sciences Center (AISC), was selected for "contributions to research and development in complex systems and virtual worlds and their use in educational applications."

AISC explores new mathematical and analytic methods, such as virtual worlds, and investigates computer-based technologies that design, track, analyze, monitor, control, and evaluate large, complex systems.

AAAS, founded in 1848, is the world's largest federation of scientists. The association works to advance science for human well-being.
