The Aerospace Corporation Presents Top Award
To Satellite Sensor Expert Donald Boucher

 

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (9/28/06) — Donald J. Boucher Jr. has received The Aerospace Corporation’s highest award, the Trustees’ Distinguished Achievement Award, “for outstanding technical leadership in recovering functionality of a new Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) sensor in support of critical national programs.”


Boucher, a principal engineer in the Space Support Division, was recognized for leading a national team of government, industry, and university experts to successfully deploy and bring into operation the first state-of-the-art conically scanning Special Sensor Microwave Sounder, launched on the DMSP F16 satellite in October 2003.


The award was presented today by Dr. Daniel E. Hastings, chair of the awards subcommittee of the board of trustees, during a convocation held at the company’s headquarters in El Segundo, Calif.
Also at the convocation, President and CEO Dr. William F. Ballhaus Jr. presented President’s Achievement Awards to one employee and members of two teams.


Accepting the individual award was Dr. Joseph F. Fennell who was recognized “for developing a scientific understanding of spacecraft charging and its effect on space systems.”


The team of William E. Fruland, Kenneth W. Kowalski, Terrence D. Ladau, and Martin R. Oetting were recognized “for their sustained technical and programmatic leadership in providing combat forces with an integrated, worldwide Blue Force Situational Awareness capability.”


The team of Dr. David A. Bearden, Robert E. Bitten, Debra L. Emmons, and Matthew J. Hart were recognized “for providing crucial analysis of alternatives for the Hubble Space Telescope Servicing and Repair Mission.”


The awards convocation is held annually to recognize exceptional achievements that advance the nation’s space and defense capabilities.
