Distinguished Appointments Announced

 

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (5/21/07) — The Aerospace Corporation has announced that Peter J. Carian and Dr. Tsou-Chiang Huang have been appointed distinguished engineers and Drs. James D. Barrie and Michael J. Meshishnek have been named distinguished scientists.


Carian, who is assigned to the Electronics Engineering Subdivision, is the company’s chief troubleshooter for problems with space-quality analog circuits and power converters. In 2001 he received the company’s top honor, the Trustees’ Distinguished Achievement Award, for contributions in resolving spacecraft and launch vehicle anomalies that threatened critical national-security missions. He formerly was a principal engineer.


Huang, with the Systems Engineering and Technology Directorate in the company’s Chantilly, Va., office, is a leading expert in the field of electronics equipment and system engineering associated with the development of complex national-security space programs. He has been supporting advanced research and development programs for nearly 20 years, introducing new products for critical mission requirements and writing numerous professional papers. His work has been frequently cited in journals of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), of which he is a life senior member, and in a wide variety of other professional publications. He was promoted from senior project engineer.


Barrie will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the Space Materials Laboratory and for providing technical advice to customers on thin film materials and optical coatings. He received the company’s President’s Achievement Award in 2002 for establishing Aerospace as the central resource for the objective assessment and testing of special critical technologies for national-security intelligence and military space programs. Barrie advances from senior scientist.


Meshishnek also will provide technical leadership in the Space Materials Laboratory, and technical advice to customers on the effects of the space environment on materials. He is one of the nation’s leading experts on the degradation of materials in space. Among his areas of expertise are space simulation, space radiation effects on materials, materials contamination, debris phenomenology, and materials survivability. He was promoted from senior scientist.
