Advisors Help Launch Aerospace Academy

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (5/1/00) -- Advisors and curriculum developers from The Aerospace Corporation were on hand when the Aerospace Academy at San Pedro High School was launched at the school's campus March 24. The academy is the culmination of a year-long effort to establish a school-within-a-school dedicated to enhancing math and science education. Members of the academy's steering committee from The Aerospace Corporation include Dr. Graham Arnold and Dr. Rod Gibson, advisors, and Leslie Belsma and Dr. David Gorney, developers of the academy's meteorology course. Other partners include the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Los Angeles Unified School District, the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce, and the local aerospace industry.
