The Aerospace Corporation Announces Election of Albert E. Smith to Board

Smith was elected to a three-year term March 11 during the board’s quarterly meeting held at the company’s regional office in Washington, D.C. The Aerospace Corporation is based in El Segundo, Calif.

Smith retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation on Feb. 1, 2005, stepping down as executive vice president of Integrated Systems and Solutions, a post he had held since it was established in June 2003. He also served as president and chairman of Lockheed-Khrunichev-Energia, a joint venture with Russian industry. Before being named executive vice president of Space Systems, Smith was president of Lockheed Martin Aerospace Electronics Systems.

Smith served for 13 years with the Central Intelligence Agency before joining the Lockheed Corporation.
“Al has an exceptional background, both in the aerospace industry and in government service, and we look forward to his participation on the board,” said Dr. William F. Ballhaus Jr., president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation.

In addition to his new position on the Aerospace board, Smith serves on the board of directors of International Launch Services and is a member of the Defense Science Board. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
