Structural Vibration Modeling and Verification Technology Exchange Forum II

April 26-27, 2005

The Aerospace Corporation, El Segundo, CA

Two industry teams led by ITT Industries (formerly Eastman Kodak) and Lockheed Martin have been exploring and demonstrating many aspects of necessary structural vibration modeling, testing, and management advances for space systems under the Structural Vibration Modeling and Verification (SVMV) program.

Interim results from this industry effort were presented at the first SVMV Technology Exchange Forum in July 2003. Since then, the teams have tested the bus, payload, and integrated systems, developed detailed finite element models, correlated subsystem models with test data, analytically predicted the integrated system response, compared analysis and test results for the integrated system, and progressed on efforts to apply system identification and alternate modeling techniques.

Many lessons have been learned about, among others, the effects of cables on structural response, options for testing systems to high frequencies, correlating complex models, and applying alternate approaches to modeling dynamic response.

The purpose of  the 2005 forum is to share final results and lessons learned from the SVMV efforts with the community. Each team will present their results in the following areas:

  • Finite element and alternate modeling method model development
  • System identification methodology development and application
  • Subsystem and integrated system testing
  • Subsystem model correlation and integrated system prediction
  • Comparison of analytical predictions and test data
  • Lessons learned
